I've got to tell you something funny and it is not a diss at all to the lampworker who made these beads... it's just commentary on how my kids' brains work.

So I'm scrolling the showcase in my bead/jewelry group this morning and I see these ...

Gabe and Mon happen to be behind me as they're getting their backpacks ready for school.

"Hey, look at these, you guys," I say, wanting to impress them with the fact I'm rubbing elbows with uber cool lampwork people.

What do both kids do? Look at the picture and shout with glee, "Poodles!"

Sigh... Okay, I have to admit they are "city kids"... time to head to the farm... Hmph!

(This picture, btw, is a piece I made with polymer clay)

So I'm listening to John Madden this morning and he's talking about his induction into the football hall of fame… and specifically in reference to how most people thought he was already IN the FHofF… ha!

So Madden says something about how sometimes things are more appreciated if they come later in life. Like if you get something too fast, it doesn't mean as much.

My first thought, then, was about love.

Seems to me, love would be the same way.

If you get it too early in life, you might not appreciate it. You might have other things you're doing or focusing on and it just might MEAN more if you get it (real love) later in life… when you've been around the block a time or two and aren't all scattered mentally and emotionally and have seen enough to know when you've got something good goin' on.

Know what I mean?

The other day I heard two news stories I wanted to get more info on. I looked them up… and they weren't as exciting as I thought they'd be. Don't know why I'm mentioning this… it just seemed telling for some reason.

Guess what? I wrote the above like two days ago. ARGH! Not keeping up with my blog… what a putz.

Okay, so today's muse is about being uninhibited.

Does that term, btw, always have to have a sexual association?

Not at all, apparently, since the dictionary definition doesn't even mention sex. Here's what it does say: 1) Open and unrestrained; 2) Free from traditional social or moral constraints.

Oh my gosh! How awesome is that?!

So here's what I'm thinking… in my jewelry designing, I strive to be uninhibited. I think there is no room for repression in art. And I hate the word "repressed" anyway. Heh

And I just realized one really down side to a blog versus say… a discussion board. This is all one-sided… I never get to hear other people's opinions on my musings (except for the few people who email me… thank you for taking the time to do that… that's SO freakin' cool!). And if people did have things to say regarding my musings, I'd be more than happy to publicly post what they say (should they not object to that). Shrug.

Anyway, let's see… this weekend I want to:

  • Photo some beads for an "Angles" bracelet a customer was interested in
  • Make some Feng Shui crystal hangings 'cause I'm completely sold out and I have some people wanting some
  • Resize some bracelets
  • Get orders out
  • Finish organizing findings
  • Order some tiny silver nuggets beads
  • Photo all the new designs, including the limited editions… whooohoo!
  • Pick and photo beads I will put up to auction, including gems and lampwork
  • Make a two-strand bracelet for super nice customer and see if she's still interested
  • Remake a pc heart bracelet for customer
  • Organize my "inspiration" binders
  • Make a list of all my bead, jewelry, and gemstone books (so I quit buying repeats of what I've already got!)
  • Make several trays of Valentine jewelry and other items that the hockey moms will want to see on Monday (last day before V-day)
  • Make some progress on special orders (like from Laura B and Nellie)
  • Call lady who wanted green necklace with Cass's beads

That's enough of a start anyway… still have hockey in Stockton and San Jose this weekend, so it's not like I'll have a TON of time.

My head is swimming with thoughts and musings… and yet, inevitably, when I sit down to write something in my blog, my mind goes blank. ARGH!

Today is Mon's birthday. She's going to her dad's after school and will have dinner there, then she and Gabe will come home around 7:30. Since it's a school night, we'll be low-key about any big activities tonight… reserving time later in the next week or two for something like bowling.

Gabe and I are both getting her board games (she LOVES playing board games; so did I as a child), so we can do that (assuming I can find what I need on the way home tonight).

We also might spend some time doing what we did last night. Ack! Yeah, we totally blew off all housework, homework, and bead work… and got suckered into the new addiction which is "Guitar Hero".

For those who don't know what that is, it's a video game, not unlike Dance-Dance-Revolution… but instead of dancing on a pad, you have a guitar in your hands and you must play along with what you see on the screen. We were ALL doing it… yep, each one of us. Sigh… And I even enjoyed it!

Well, I think I'm a bit keyed-up this morning… don't seem to have the ability to concentrate on anything. But I do get to leave early, so I'll have time to go get Mon a couple of presents.

Still need to decide the exact time and date of her party and do the invites… but I guess just getting through this weekend (8 games in Santa Rosa) should be focused on first.

And I'd better get a move on now… will have to write bead-related musings at another time…

That's one of my new bangles and I'm in love with it!

Okay, this is going to be brief because I'm swamped. Ha ha ha! I know that comes as a great shock to most of you who know me…. NOT!

We had a great day with Monica yesterday, even though we didn't get the kids until 7:30pm.

The theme of her presents was "board games" 'cause she loves them and it's a nice way to spend time with the kids.

Gabe got her Simpson's version of LIFE, Mike got her Lord of the Rings version of RISK and I got her the NHL version of MONOPOLY. She also got Skip-Bo and Boggle. We played about 6 rounds of Boggle and then did our new Tuesday night tradition… watched Supernatural from 9 to 10 then went to bed.

Mike and I *were* going to go out for dinner but that fell through due to the crowds and what not, so we're taking the kids to the new Chili's tomorrow night and we just ended up picking up something quick and going home (for a few rounds of Guitar Hero… ha!... before the kids arrived).

BTW, Mon didn't have time to look at any email sent to her through my email addie, but she'll be here (at the office) between 2:30 and 4:30 so I'll have her look at them then… and thanks in advance!

We haven't seen Leon in days. Mike thinks he's still around, but I'm not as optimistic (weird, eh?).

Mike washed the car again this weekend, and I noticed today it's COVERED in a layer of dust already. What's up with that?

I need to remember to sit down with Mike and the kids and look at this weekend's Santa Rosa schedule… figure out who's going to which games and when I need to beg a sleepover for one of the kids.

Beady-wise, I'm also swamped… I will do ONLY Laura M. fix-its tonight… then if I have time I can put together a few bracelets for take-arounds.

And Laura B… if you're reading this… thanks for the soda Monday ;-)

Gosh, I still have a few items shot and ready to list and I don't have time to list.

This morning, I attempted to get minimally caught up with emails. I see, though, that the more I respond to, the more I generate (one step forward, two steps backward?). J

Mon's got a full-fledged cold goin' on at the moment. L

Oh Mom, got your card on my way to work today, but Mon hasn't seen it yet… I'll let you know when she opens it.

Dad, Moni got your card and says thanks! She LOVES the picture on it!

Linda and Dennis… you are WAY too generous, but Mon says thanks. I'll tell you what she ends up spending the money on.

I need to get Mon some shoes… was going to do that for her birthday but ran out of time. Maybe tomorrow between hockey games up in Santa Rosa.

Still haven't seen Leon… keep holding out (rose-tinted glasses') hope, though.

Blackie still comes by once or twice a day, though… she needs to feed those babies in her tummy, I guess.

I could have worked on jewelry last night, but I didn't… just did stuff with Mike and the kids instead.

Okay, so that puts me behind, but… c'est la vie.

Man, I have like NOTHING to say today… Sorry…

What's today's new? Not much… Still listing the penny auctions.

Have to get orders out and then head up to Santa Rosa for Mon's game.

Then we'll be hanging out until Gabe's game later in the evening.

Have to meet up with the woman running the auction and give her the bracelet.

Would like to know that the other auction got the bracelet I left for them.

Have a new slew of items to photo and list, but that probably won't happen until Monday (which, thank goodness, is a holiday).

Well, have to make this brief as I have a lot to do today.

Will report on the first of the tournament games by tomorrow!

Tuesday, February 21, 2006

Wow, what a weekend! Where do I start?

Hm… okay, Mon had four games in the tournament and Gabe had four games. Mon was playing with her own team, but Gabe was playing for a Pasadena team that needed a goalie.

Mon's team ended up going to the championships, but they took second. Which isn't bad considering they were playing against an "A" team (this was a "B" tournament, but apparently some rules are meant to be bent). The other team only beat them by one point also… so we were really, really proud of our little squirts.

Gabe helped the Pasadena team take third. I hope the team had as much fun as Gabe did.

We stayed up there (in Santa Rosa) the first night 'cause Gabe had a late Friday night game and Mon had an early morning game Saturday. But the rest of the weekend was a mix of lots of driving and lots of really nice hockey parents helping us out with stay-overs, etc.

We finally replaced the DC car adapter that goes to the little DVD player, so that should make long driving trips more tolerable for some, from now on.

Last night, Gabe and I worked really hard getting our orders in order. He is sold out of so many things… but we can't replace them at the moment ($$$).

My listings are dwindling, so I've got to get my rear in gear and get some new listings up.

I'm just not suited to be the type of store/business/person to have a lot of inventory. I prefer to keep it moving… VERY FAST.

Well, I'm gonna end this now 'cause I started it about 5 hours ago… and that just goes to show how back-logged I am with work, etc.

Talk later!

Missed a day... sorry!

And the funny thing is, until this very moment (4:23pm), I thought today was the 22nd. ARGH!

Oh well…

So, what's news?

Um… Mon and Gabe both play on Saturday. Mon in Oakland, Gabe in Fresno.

Sunday I have a beady-jam to go to then it's back to Oakland for lunch/dinner with Andre.

I went through several stacks of papers today. You have NO idea how proud of myself I am for that. Wow, if I could just keep doing that. But of course, doing THAT means ignoring Mike's book (can't do that), not cleaning the house (can't do that), not making jewelry (can't do that), etc. I think you get my point. Okay, I totally need to make an affirmation bracelet.

Which reminds me! I am making one for a good friend too. Gosh, I almost forgot. How like me. Tsk tsk.

Well, I'm a bit antsy, so I'll make this short. I'm not good at musing when I'm all keyed up.

Maybe tomorrow I'll be more relaxed.

Wow, bad news and good news (nothing earth-shattering… just surprising).

The bad news is that I was FORCED to update the website, taking out items no longer available and then going into everything that's left and giving them a weight and size. You see, I found out that the automated shipping calculator charging putting ridiculously high amounts for postage.

Okay, so the good news is, that the reason I found out about this is because the website is getting a LOT of interest lately. Yay! And I'm getting orders on it now. Yay!

Y'know, if I had more time and more inclination to be business-oriented, I could be doing MASSIVE things… but alas, I work within the parameters of doing what I can when I can and nothing that I find too distasteful (lots of schmoozing, trying to sell myself, high-pressure marketing, etc).

Last night I got a bunch of new items photo'd. Maybe tonight I can list them.

I've been toying with the idea of keeping my listings on eBay with penny starting bids. We'll see how it goes.

Don't know if I mentioned… Leon's back. Did I already tell you about the talk Mike had with him?

Blackie's fat (ready for litter #6 or so)… Domino's been around lately too.

Would mention some movies I've started to watch lately that I've been enjoying, but I don't recall the titles (bid surprise).

Our latest night-time tv watching show is X-Files (we've gone though other various stages including: Highlander, Friday the 13th, Forensic Files, etc).
